Becoming better acquainted with the spoken Arabic, and culture specific topics and concepts. Focusing on possible fields for intercultural negotiation, while keeping intact culture specificities and differences
Course contents
Although addressing absolute beginners, this course sets as its key-target the acquisition of the skill to interact in "global communicative settings", where English and Arabic are at stake.
This course addresses the basics of language and culture, in details for:
-Written Language: additional notes on the morphology of nouns and detailed study of verbal morphology, appropriate for the level, and including main iregularities; dedicated attention to words order
-Spoken Language: additional study of the Levantine variety (Beirut); twin formulae from the Egyptian variety (Cairo) for introducing onself and greetings.
-Chunks, collocations, and formulae: additional collocations and chunks, considered useful for the diplomatic-administrative sphere; isolated lexicon and elementary but culturally significant formulae will be presented.At this stage, students are invited to simply memorize an higher number chunks-collocations-formulae, selected among many others presented
