Learning outcomes

At the end of the teaching, the student must be able to investigate nursing and obstetric care processes, organizational and educational processes, related to the evolution of health problems of the population, the functioning of health and social systems and specific professional paths.

Course contents

Characteristics of scientific research:
The research path: objectives, questions/hypotheses and research variables
The rationale of the study and the literature review
Descriptive, observational and experimental research designs
The research protocol: writing the protocol
The research protocol: designing the experimental study
The research protocol: designing the observational study

Data collection and main data collection tools
Statistical analyses planned
Request for authorization to the Ethics Committee or other competent authorities
Reporting guidelines: CONSORT, STARD, STROBE, PRISMA
Drafting, submission and publication of a scientific article
Characteristics of organizational research:
The path of organizational research: objectives, research questions/hypotheses and research variables.The main designs of organizational research: peculiarities and weaknesses.

Interactive lectures and classroom exercises in small groups.

Assessment methods

The evaluation of the teaching will be written and oral

The student will have to develop and present a complete research project including the following documents:

- The complete protocol
- The synopsis
- The data collection tool(s)
- The patient or participant information sheet (if appropriate)
- The consent form for the study
The above mentioned documents must be sent via email 10 days before the exam date.

Evaluation:

The evaluation will be conducted considering the following aspects: - originality and completeness of the project; - clinical-care problem/question; - hypotheses/questions and variables relevant to the problem; - background literature review; - methodology to test hypotheses/answer questions; - tools; - expected statistical analyses; - action plans with timelines consistent with the conduct of the research. The grading will be defined as follows: 30 with honors, excellent execution of the research protocol complete with all required documentation, adherence to deadlines. from 24 to 30, complete execution of the research protocol, adherence to deadlines. from 18 to 23, sufficient execution of the research protocol, adherence to deadlines. The exam is considered passed if the assessments of the remaining modules are also sufficient.
