Learning outcomes

The student acquires the different types of research studies, measurements and social research tools. The student is able to apply the notions in the construction of the thesis as a research tool, in the publication of an article or a poster. Primary studies: sensitivity, specificity, diagnostic accuracy, predictive values of diagnostic tools. Secondary Education: Characteristics of Secondary Education. Systematic Reviews and Guidelines.

Course contents

EBM, Evidence-Based Medicine: Definition and History; Limits, tools and skills.

Primary studies: Sensitivity, specificity, diagnostic accuracy, predictive values of diagnostic tools.

Secondary Education: Characteristics of Secondary Education. Systematic Reviews and Guidelines.

Research design: Type of studies (cross-sectional/longitudinal; prospective/retrospective; observational/experimental; cohort/case-control; clinical randomized controlled).

Measurement and variables: Types of measurements and variables; Type of characters; Relationship between variables.

The tools of social research: The questionnaire; The interview; The experiment; Observation; The use of sources.

Introduction to medical statistics: Sampling; Data collection; Frequency distributions; association measures.

The dissertation as a research tool: Choice of thesis (compilative/experimental/empirical); Structure and presentation of the thesis.

Scientific contributions: The publication of an article; Oral presentation; The poster.

To pass the exam, knowledge is required only of the teaching material provided in class.
