Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student acquires theoretical skills relating to the TSRM activity in a Nuclear Medicine Service. In particular, at the end of the course the student is able to describe the main examination protocols in Nuclear Medicine, with particular reference to the patient experience in a Nuclear Medicine department, the equipment used, the production and management of the radiopharmaceuticals and the main acquisition and post-processing methods.
Course contents
This module aims to guide the student to understanding the most common diagnostic techniques of nuclear medical imaging in the following fields: cardiology, oncology, neurology, nephro-urology, endocrinology and in the diagnosis of infectious processes, as well as on the use, management and production of Radiopharmaceuticals. The student learns the techniques for performing conventional nuclear medicine procedures: myocardial scintigraphy, first transit and equilibrium angiocardioscintigraphy; triphasic and whole body bone scan; scintigraphy in cerebrovascular pathologies, movement disorders, epilepsy and dementia; thyroid and parathyroid scintigraphy, adrenal medullary and cortical scintigraphy; static and sequential renal scintigraphy; salivary glands, scintigraphy for the search for ectopic gastric mucosa (Meckel's diverticulum), scintigraphy for the evaluation of gastroenterorrhagia, for gastrointestinal motility, liver scintigraphy with lean albumin aggregates and scintigraphy for the study of the esophagus; scintigraphy to search for the sentinel lymph node; ventilation-perfunctional lung scintigraphy; scintigraphy with labeled leukocytes.
