95889 - Forms of the Scenic Space (1) (LM)

Academic Year 2024/2025

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Music and Theatre Studies (cod. 8837)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course students acquire a detailed knowledge of the components of the scenic space. They are able to interpret the corresponding textual and audio-visual sources and to apply the appropriate historiographic and critical categories. They are capable of analyzing the relational aspects connected to the different venues, forms and functions of the performative practices.

Course contents

The theater occurring in everyday spaces erodes the culture of modern theatre, producing a double effect: of desacralization of the stage, as official theatre place, and sacralization of the urban, rural, post-industrial territory, etc… leveling the cultural hierarchies of places and undermining their “normativity”. In the first part of the course, we will go through the phenomenon known as the “exit from theatre” to grasp its implications with respect to the historical, political and cultural context and analyze how the sense of place of the theatre has changed from the second half of the Twentieth Century to the pandemics, with a specific attention to the development of a new performative landscape writing. A focus will be dedicated to participatory phenomena in urban contexts and peripatetic itineraries, through the case study of the Bod/y-z project (2023).

Students with SLD or temporary or permanent disabilities. It is suggested that they get in touch as soon as possible with the relevant University office (https://site [https://site/] .unibo.it/tudent-con-disabilita-e-dsa/en) and with the lecturer in order to seek together the most effective strategies for following the lessons and/or preparing for the examination.

Acceptable language and the ability to resume the texts content will lead to a sufficient/fair grade.

Insufficient linguistic proficiency and fragmentary knowledge of the books' content will lead to a failure in passing the exam.

Students with SLD or temporary or permanent disabilities. It is necessary to contact the relevant University office (https://site.unibo.it/studenti-con-disabilita-e-dsa/en ) with ample time in advance: the office will propose some adjustments, which must in any case be submitted 15 days in advance to the lecturer, who will assess the appropriateness of these in relation to the teaching objectives.
