Learning outcomes
The course consists in learning methods relating to the Destructive and Microdestructive Techniques aimed to assess the structural beavhiour and seismic vulnerability of Monuments and Historical Buildings. The course intends to provide the students a methodology for screening of such buildings for potential seismic hazards.
Course contents
The activity is divided into a theoretical part and a practical part.
The first concerns the destructive and microdestructive techniques for knowledge, interpretation of structural behavior and verification of the seismic vulnerability of monuments and historical masonry structures. These preliminary activities are mandatory for rehabilitation and restoration projects. The most recent advances in instrumental monitoring will also be presented.
The practical part concerns the operational methodologies that the Architect also implements during the occurrence of earthquakes.
Readings/Bibliography

Guidelines and Damage Prevention Forms, provided by the Italian Civil Protection Department and the Ministry of Culture , aimed to the Protection and Conservation of Architectural and Monumental Heritage
Teaching methods
The course consists of two teaching units:
The first takes 8 hours including lectures, visits and films, with the aim of acquiring a series of information that allow the student to evaluate the main aspects of control .
The second teaching unit takes 22 hours including seminar activities and workshops held at Heritage Buildings employing Civil Protection methodologies.
Due to activities and teaching methods adopted, the frequency of this training activity requires the prior participation of all students in modules 1 and 2 safety training in the study places, in e-learning mode.
Assessment methods
The suitability of the AFPG - Structural Diagnostics Laboratory II course is achieved through the direct active participation in the workshops.
Teaching tools
Some notes will be available electronically via the digital platform.
