Learning outcomes

At the end of the module, the student possesses basic knowledge of the physical characteristics of sound waves and the physiological mechanisms of their transmission and perception;

the student will be able to understands the pathophysiology and the principles of diagnosis and treatment of the main otological diseases that may affect verbal communication.

Overview of ear embryology

Anatomy and physiology of the ear

Instrumental diagnostics in audiology

Pathology of the outer ear (malformations, inflammation, neoplasms) – diagnostic and therapeutic principles

Pathology of the middle ear (inflammatory diseases, otosclerosis, principles of otologic surgery) – diagnostic and therapeutic principles

Pathology of the inner ear (cochlea and retrocochlear diseases): malformations, genetic disorders, neuropathies, acoustic neuroma, classifications, diagnostic and therapeutic principles of hearing loss

Pathology of the inner ear (posterior labyrinth): malformations, framework of vestibular diseases, differential diagnosis of vertigo, therapeutic principles
