Learning outcomes

At the end of the module, the student:

  • possesses knowledge of the main otorhinolaryngological diseases in both childhood and adulthood;
  • understands the otorhinolaryngological alterations occurring in systemic diseases and in the craniofacial region;
  • is familiar with the signs, symptoms, and the principles of diagnosis and treatment related to the aforementioned points

Course contents

  • Anatomy, physiology, and semiotics of the nose and paranasal cavities. Diagnosis and treatment of the main nasal and sinus pathologies.
  • Anatomy, physiology, and semiotics of the pharynx. Diagnosis and treatment of the main pharyngeal pathologies. Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.
  • Anatomy, physiology, and semiotics of the larynx. Diagnosis and treatment of the main laryngeal pathologies. Overview of upper airway dyspnea. Tracheotomy.
  • Neck swellings. Pathology of the major salivary glands. Neck surgery, thyroid and parathyroid surgery.
  • Facial nerve paralysis and facial nerve surgery.
