Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student will be able to analyse design trends in the field of restoration, both in terms of theoretical principles and of technical procedures.

Course contents

The course moves from the roots of the discipline of architectural restoration to the contemporary assumptions on the conservation of cultural heritage.

The module aims to provide students with the critical tools necessary to elaborate in the future a project of intervention/valorisation on cultural heritage, having the ability to read and distinguish the events that have passed through an architecture, its materials, its construction techniques and its modifications, in order to understand how to use these notions for conservation purposes.

The lectures will help to understand and use terminologies, highlight the expansion over time of the meaning of cultural heritage, and trace a framework between the works and writings of the fathers of restoration and the following scholars at national and international level who have determined the evolution of the discipline, up to contemporaneity.
