Learning outcomes
The purpose of the course is to provide participants with good knowledge about the most important health problems in the school-age children and about the fundaments of prevention.
More specifically the course intends to enable educators to apply the concepts acquired to their professional practice, in order to safeguard child health in children's communities and to promote health education activities.
Course contents
Introduction to Hygiene– Definition of the concept of health, prevention, health education, health promotion at school.
General epidemiology of infectious diseases: microorganisms, host-parasite relationships, organism's biological defences; sources of infection, transmission modalities, favouring conditions.
Infectious disease prevention: vaccine prophylaxis, compulsory and recommended vaccinations in the evolutive age; seroprophylaxis, notification, isolation, disinfection, sterilization.
Infectious disease prevention in schools.
Epidemiology and prevention of the most important infectious diseases (chickenpox, acute gastroenteritis, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome)
Epidemiology and prevention of parasitic diseases: pediculosis.
Food and nutrition hygiene: main nutrients, a balanced diet, indications for correct nutrition in school-age children, food safety.
Nutrition education in schools: objectives, guidelines.
Lifestyles and health: physical activity, smoking habit, drinking habit.
Noninfectious diseases of particular relevance to school-age children: childhood obesity.

ERASMUS STUDENTS are kindly requested to contact the teacher to clarify how to study the program for the preparation of the exam.It is strongly suggested to attend lectures.
Teaching methods
Frontal lectures, analysis of research data, questioning (Wooclap)
Lectures are given in Italian Language.
Assessment methods
Criteria to assess exam will be:
- clarity in the presentation of the contents;
- ability to link the main issues;
- critical analysis of the repercussions of the topics studied within school and for the training of teacher professionalism.
ERASMUS STUDENT: the learning assessment method is agreed with the teacher. The exam will take place in Italian. Bibliography is in italian language.
The final vote will be expressed in thirtieths (30/30).
There is no examination jump.
To support the exam registration is required through Bulletin Board (Almaesami), in compliance with mandatory deadlines. Those who failed to register for technical issues by the due date, shall communicate promptly (and in any case before the formal closure of the registration lists) the problem to the academic office. The teacher's right to admit or not the student to the examination.
STUDENT WITH SLD: it is necessary to contact the relevant University office (https://site.unibo.it/studenti-con-disabilita-e-dsa/en) with ample time in advance: the office will propose some adjustments, which must in any case be submitted 15 days in advance to the lecturer, who will assess the appropriateness of these in relation to the teaching objectives.Teaching tools
