Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student knows in depth the innovative technologies for medical radiology: DICOM communication, HIS / RIS / PACS.

Course contents

Introduction to information systems for imaging management in the healthcare environment.
Fundamentals of databases.
Fundamentals of computer networks and the ISO-OSI model
RIS and PACS systems and their interoperability via DICOM standards, HL7 and the IHE initiative
Characterization of medical images and fundamentals of image processing including artificial intelligence techniques, machine and deep learning.

Handouts and materials provided by the teacher.

Reading the reference scientific articles that will be provided by the teacher on specific topic for an in-depth approach is recommended.

Teaching methods

Lectures and exercises with dedicated software.

Assessment methods

The final assessment consists of a written test that aims to verify whether the student has grasped the topics presented in class.
The test will be assessed on the basis of the following parameters:
- knowledge, mastery and depth of content
- critical and expository capacity
- correctness of technical and scientific terminology
