Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students understand the most relevant issues of the communication design sector with particular attention to its principal disciplinary declinations; understand the relationship between the product and its communication from a historical point of view; have acquired the knowledge necessary to evaluate critically the complex visual strategies characterizing the contemporary age.
Course contents
The course aims to provide theoretical and design fundamentals that provide tools for a correct and conscious visual communication project. The structural and syntactic aspects of visual communication will be addressed through theoretical lessons and exercises that will lead to the knowledge and application of the visual variables helpful in realising a communication project (field, colour, typeface, pagination grid, photography).
In working groups, the students will address the different stages of a fashion-related creative process, from analyzing the project brief to defining the visual message.
Students with SLD or temporary or permanent disabilities. It is suggested that they get in touch as soon as possible with the relevant University office (https://site.unibo.it/ studenti-con-disabilita-e-dsa/ en [https://site.unibo.it/studenti-con-disabilita-e-dsa/en] ) and with the lecturer in order to seek together the most effective strategies for following the lessons and/or preparing for the examination.

Teaching methods
The course is structured through lectures and project/workshop activities.
The lectures are designed to provide the basic knowledge to handle the main elements of visual communication:
- images
- colour
- composition
- typography
Assessment methods
For the attending-students, a group project is planned, which is structured to experiment with the relationship between fashion and visual communication, from iconographic research to the creation of a mood, from the search for graphic inputs to the creation of communicative artefacts.
The final exams will consist of the presentation of the group project and an interview related to the contents of the lectures.
Instagram will be a tool for sharing the various project phases and a platform for presenting the project.
For non-attending students, there will be an oral test on the bibliography and the presentation of a visual artefact analysing a fashion collection.
Students with SLD or temporary or permanent disabilities. It is necessary to contact the relevant University office (https://site.unibo.it/ studenti-con-disabilita-e-dsa/ en [https://site.unibo.it/studenti-con-disabilita-e-dsa/en] ) with ample time in advance: the office will propose some adjustments, which must in any case be submitted 15 days in advance to the lecturer, who will assess the appropriateness of these in relation to the teaching objectives.
