Academic Year 2024/2025

  • Moduli: Erik Ciravegna (Modulo 1) Erik Ciravegna (Modulo 2)
  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures (Modulo 1) Traditional lectures (Modulo 2)
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Industrial Design (cod. 8182)

Learning outcomes

By the end of the module, the student will have the ability to apply the set of techniques and processes learned in the Graphics Elements module within a real-life communicative project case, where the professional design process will be simulated and the appropriate outputs required to define both process and product.

Course contents

Course description

The course Visual Communication Studio is divided into two modules: Elements of Graphic Design and Graphic Communication. The two modules provide tools and techniques, on the one hand, and historical/cultural and methodological knowledge, on the other, with the aim of training integrated skills for the development of a design process and visual communication project.

The Graphic Communication module aims to provide cultural knowledge and design methodologies with the objective of developing skills in the realisation of an effective and content-consistent graphic design.

Structure

The course, in synergy with the 'elements of graphic design' module, will be divided between lecture and workshop hours. In the module, through a series of practical exercises, the design methodology will be developed supported by a cultural theoretical pathway. During the workshop, the design will be alternated with moments of confrontation and sharing of the stages of progress of the projects.

The first part of the course aims to provide the students with the tools, outline the contexts and stimulate the gaze through which they can make their own design effective, defining together the spheres of action, characteristics and quality of the project.

The second part will serve to define the set of tools suitable for defining and applying a design method useful for the subsequent phase of realising a brand identity project consistent with the needs expressed by a real client.

This phase will therefore identify the key steps of the design process that precede the implementation phase in working groups. We will work on the conception of an idea with creative techniques aimed at developing lateral thinking; on research methods; on the development of a concept and a mood-board; on the definition of design guidelines and the realisation of a prototype.
