Learning outcomes
At the end of the module the student possesses the knowledge, as far as he/she is concerned, regarding the epidemiology of healthcare-related infections, precautionary isolation measures, prevention measures and application of bundles for the main HAIs; identifies, plans and evaluates assistance interventions in the management of patients with healthcare-related infection, collaborates with other professionals in specific diagnostic-therapeutic pathways.
Course contents
-- Introduction to Healthcare-Related Infections (HAI): Role of the ISRI and Role of the Link Nurse;
- Standard and contact isolation precautionary measures;
- Role and precautions in the use of detergents and antiseptics for intact and damaged skin (newborn/child, adult);
- Process of reconditioning of medical devices
- Measures to prevent the spread of transmission, application of Bundles for the main HAIs and care aspects for the management of colonized/infected patients
- Procedures for carrying out blood cultures and urine cultures aimed at preventing contamination of the sample
- Prevention of infection and management of surgical wounds that close by primary intention and NANDA nursing diagnoses; NIC; NOC; (NNN) relating to the compromise of skin integrity and the risk of infection
- Prevention of transmission and control measures of some particular conditions of skin infections and transmissible parasites (scabies, pediculosis, varicella zoster, aspergillosis)
