Learning outcomes

Knowledge of the physiological bases of:

- the activity of the cerebral cortex;

- the control of movement.

In particular, the learning outcomes will focus on:

- the somatosensory cortex and its anatomical and functional links with the associative cortical areas;

- the cerebral cortical control of movements and its modulation by the cerebellum and the basal nuclei.

Course contents

Anatomical and functional organization of the cerebral cortex, the basal nuclei, and the cerebellum.

The control of movement by the cerebral cortex and its regulation by the cerebellum and the basal nuclei. Parieto-frontal circuit in the control of movement.

Cognitive function, language and memory.

Features and circadian organization of the behavioral states.

Circulation, blood brain barrier, and cortical metabolism.

Oral examination on the topics discussed during the lectures and listed in the course contents above.

The final mark will be the result of the single marks obtained in the different courses on the basis of the teaching hours.

Graduation of the final mark:

Knowledge of a limited number of topics discussed during the course and limited capacity thanks to the help of the teacher, appropriate language → 18-19;

Knowledge of a limited number of topics discussed during the course and autonomous capacity of the student, appropriate language → 20-24;

Knowledge of a large number of topics discussed during the course and autonomous capacity and critic analyses, knowledge of appropriate and specific language → 25-29;

Complete knowledge of topics discussed during the course and autonomous capacity and critic analyses and connections, knowledge of appropriate and specific language → 30-30L.
