Course contents
Revision and enhancement of English grammar at the intermediate level (B1) aiming to reach the upper intermediate level (B2-C1). A rich variety of texts will be studied, ranging from literary, academic and journalistic texts, with a view to understanding how argumentation is constructed. The focus will be on lexical, grammatical and syntactical aspects. Critical understanding, appreciation and discussion of the texts will be encouraged.
Readings/Bibliography
Digital materials provided by the teacher via the Virtual teaching platform. These can be downloaded for further practice and revision.
Teaching methods
Lessons are taught in English, opportunities for reading. listening, conversation practice. Solid background knowledge of English is required up to levels B2 (Cambridge First Certificate) and C1 (Cambridge Advanced)
Assessment methods
Written test only (paper-based: remember to bring a pen).
30 items in the test, broken down as follows:
One text with 10 multiple-choice grammar items (a, b, c, d);
10 word formation items;
10 open cloze items (one-word gap-fill).
Minimum pass mark is 18 out of 30.
Students who pass have 48 hours to refuse the mark, informing me of their decision by email.
