Learning outcomes

At the end of the module, the student possesses knowledge to the extent of his/her competence, relating to the pathophysiology, methodology, functional and instrumental semiotics and surgical therapy of pathologies of the respiratory system and thoracic structures, including oncological thoracic surgery and thoracic surgery urgent and emergency.

Course contents

- Lung neoplasms: classification, pathological anatomy, clinic, diagnosis (invasive and non-invasive tests), TNM staging, definition of grade and stage and their value in determining the prognosis and surgical indications, principles of surgical therapy.

- Syndromes of occupation of the pleural cavity: pneumothorax, hemothorax, pleural effusion, pleural empyema, chylothorax.

- Pathology of the mediastinum: thymomas and mediastinal masses.

- Chest traumatology: open and closed trauma.

Teaching methods
