Academic Year 2024/2025

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Dental Hygiene (cod. 8481)

Learning outcomes

The Internal Medicine course aims to enhance the student's clinical reasoning and methodological approach to patient care, key features of the subject matter. From this perspective, Internal Medicine remains one of the most important formative disciplines in any biomedical field. Specifically, by the end of the course, the student will have acquired the necessary skills to recognize, assess, and manage the most common internal medical conditions, including those that have relevance to oral pathologies.

In practical terms, the student will be able to:

  • Understand the pathophysiological basis of the most common internal medical conditions, with a specific focus on those whose complications are related to the stomatognathic system;
  • Identify the clinical manifestations, complications, and natural progression of the most common internal diseases;
  • Assess the risk of disease in a patient and be aware of applicable preventive procedures;
  • Develop the foundational knowledge to recognize and assess simple clinical cases relevant to dental and oral pathologies.

    Assessment methods

    The final exam for the Internal Medicine module consists of an oral presentation on two topics from the program. The student is evaluated based on their ability to present the specific subjects in a clear and concise manner, with some elements of critical analysis.

    The partial grade for the Internal Medicine module (3 CFU) contributes to the final grade out of thirty, calculated as a weighted average of the partial grades from the other modules in the Integrated Course (total of 8 CFU).
