Learning outcomes

The student has an in-depth knowledge of linguistic and discursive aspects of the French language, from both a synchronic and diachronic perspective, including its applications to textual analysis and translation. Through practical exercises, his/her communicative skills in all skills, both active and passive, progress towards level C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference, which enables him/her to effectively interpret the socio-linguistic and cultural codes of the subjects involved in a communicative relationship.

Course contents

Bilingual and intercultural teaching.

Teaching Italian to a French-speaking audience socio-linguistic and cultural approach.

General objectives:

This course trains bilingual experts who can:

1. Master French at C2 level (linguistic approach, translation, cultural analysis);
2. Teach Italian to French-speaking people from a socio-linguistic and intercultural perspective;
3. Analyze interferences and synergies between French and Italian (linguistic contact, cultural transfers);
4. Design teaching tools adapted to a multicultural audience.

Future language teachers, master's students (FLE/Italian), bilingualism professionals.

Teaching methods

The course will be structured in a combination of lectures, workshops, group discussions and hands-on learning experiences. Students will be encouraged to collaborate and share ideas, fostering a dynamic learning environment. This course not only prepares the student component to effectively teach Italian to a French-speaking audience, but also equips them with the socio-linguistic and cultural tools necessary to create an engaging and meaningful learning experience.

Assessment methods

The LM LCIS French Language course consists of two parts: a part of language exercises, held by Michèle Cohen (1st semester) and a part of the official course held by Jean-Michel Sourd (2nd semester).
At the end of the course, each student will have to take:
- 1 written exam lasting 3 hours for the part of language exercises (1st session January 2025, 2nd session May 2025, 3rd session September 2025)
- 1 written exam lasting 3 hours for the part of the official course (1st session June 2025, 2nd session September 2025, 3rd session January 2026)
- 1 oral exam that will focus on the practical work done during the lessons for the official course part (2 sessions June 2025, 2 sessions September 2025, 2 sessions January 2026).
Regular attendance of the course is highly recommended, given the significant practical and applied component of the course.
