Learning outcomes
To improve oral and written skills in a Professional work context, familiarise students with written and oral conventions in English comunication and know how to adopt these skills in written and oral production.
Course contents
THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT IN ENGLISH (CEFR: LEVEL C1)
The following areas of study will be dealt with:
- Development of specific terminology and linguistic terms related to soft skills in various written and oral contexts (for example, CV writing, formal writing for e-mails, reports and proposals, creating an effective web profile for job-seekers, the acquisition of useful soft skills in job interviews, presenting oneself and teamwork).
- General course objectives are to provide participants with awareness of the value of soft skills in the work world and to be able to self-evaluate their own skills, creating an action plan to further develop areas of weakness. Relating to others and interacting effectively with others in a work context will also be dealt with, along with raising awareness of the dynamics between individuals and conflict management.
Readings/Bibliography
Slides, study materials and other useful activities will be made available on Moodle or Virtuale during the course.
Teaching methods
THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT IN ENGLISH
Lessons will include teacher presentations using reading/listening/visual materials in English with discussion following the material presented alongside language learning activities carried out in small groups in English.
Individual study is an integral part of the course together with group activities which involve the sharing of ideas and presentations in class of topics set as asynchronous activities.
Active participation in discussions and activities represents part of the learning process and will help participants in their exam preparation.
Assessment methods
70% ATTENDANCE OF THE COURSE IS NECESSARY TO BE ADMITTED TO THE FINAL EXAM
There will be two methods of evaluation:
1. During the course (50%) - presentation (group, individual or in pairs)
2. End of course Written test (50%) on course content
- e-mail/report/proposal (max 200 words)
- listening comprehension (content pertinent to course material)

Authentic and teaching materials in English will be adopted, Powerpoint, internet, Moodle/VLE
