Learning outcomes
Learning outcomes: By the end of the course, students will have: developed a comprehensive view of the phenomenon of criminal victimization thanks to the study of theoretical and empirical approaches which have characterized the development of the victimological discipline; examined many notions on the problems related to the impact of victimization, and on the rights, support and protection of victims of crime; studied theoretical and methodological references on which the restorative justice (RJ) paradigm is based, also when considered in the social and criminal policy context; acquired competences in RJ programs; learnt the organic reform of RJ.
Course contents
During the course, we will examine the meaning of the concept of victim via the application of victimological theories. Therefore, the information will be presented beginning with the theoretical point of view, and moving into specific situations and cases for study.
Multimedia documents and participative activities will be useful to study the impact of criminal victimization, the formal responses to it, and the legal system from a victims' perspective.
Then, we will analyze from a socio-victimological point of view the possibilities opened up by the new Italian law on restorative justice.
Classes will be held in the first semester (from September to December 2024).
