Learning outcomes

in this course:

  • We will define mental health by contextualizing it in the national and international scenario
  • We will describe the historical evolution of theoretical models, laws and the organization of psychiatric care
  • We will approach the concepts of Mental Health, Stigma, Chronicity, Resilience and Recovery in the context of mental pathologies
  • We will think about the meaning of Stigma, Prejudice and discrimination in people's lives, and the influence of the behavior of care staff and care givers.
  • We will approach the most frequent pharmacological treatments with particular attention to nursing skills with respect to their clinical use
  • We will identify care strategies and management methodologies (interview techniques, assessment tools)
  • We will identify the clinical nursing aspects that influence the phases of the patient's Diagnostic, Therapeutic and Care Path (PDTA) (reception, taking charge, treatment/planning, discharge/follow up)
  • We will address the structure of the Department of Mental Health (DSM) and how the therapeutic/assistance path is structured within it
  • We will address the legislative, social, ethical and deontological aspects and the health policy directions regarding mental health
  • We will describe assistance to people with difficulties in the main psychopathological conditions including pathological addiction problems
  • We will describe the potential of communication and relationships in crisis, in urgency and emergency and in aggression.
  • We will describe cooling and de-escalation techniques.
  • We will mention ASO and TSO, restraints.
  • History of mental health care, Epidemiology, The DSM and mental health workers, Reception, role of nursing functions and skills, taking charge and territorial pathways, personalized therapeutic project, case management,
