99679 - Workshop on Critical Reading

Academic Year 2024/2025

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Forli
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in International Studies (cod. 5949)

Learning outcomes

The workshop aims to introduce students to the critical reading and understanding of texts (primarily in political and social sciences), starting from the examination of significant cases. At the end of the workshop, students will have acquired the necessary skills to summarise, schematise (also in written form), contextualise and critically analyse theoretical, empirical and methodological aspects of the examined texts (volumes, journal essays, research reports, short articles).

Course contents

The workshop consists of reading and analyzing classic texts (books and academic articles) belonging to the main strands of literature in the field of economic geography and regional development. These texts deal with evolutionary economic geography, regional innovation systems, global innovation networks, relational economic geography, etc., and allow us to interpret how spatial and relational dynamics influence development paths in different regions. The context in which these concepts originated, their thematic relationships and differences, and their acceptance in the academic community will be explored and discussed.
