Learning outcomes

 

- The student at the end of the course should be able to:
know the concept of professional ethics and deontology, and how these concepts should be concretized in nursing with reference to the centrality of the person;


know the nursing code of ethics;
know the concept of bioethics and its applicability in nursing;
know the principles of bioethics;
know the models of bioethics;
know the structuring of ethics committees.
know the characteristics of a bioethics counseling service;
know the criteria of clinical case analysis;
analysis and discussion of clinical cases (working groups and plenary discussion).

- To know the concept of ethics and professional deontology, and how these concepts should be concretized in care with reference to the centrality of the person;


the ethical premise: conscience, value, moral norm;
the concept of professional deontology;
The "person" and "the assisted";
The concept of person-centeredness.

- Getting to know the nursing code of ethics 2019;
The relationship between ethics and deontology and some articles of the Code of Nursing Ethics (CD);
Reading and reflecting on the articles of the CD with insights into some peculiar aspects (e.g., restraint, conscience clause, the relationship and communication with the caregiver, caring and caring for, end-of-life care, advance treatment arrangements)

- Know the concept of bioethics and its applicability in the care setting;


What is bioethics: general principles;
Brief background on the history of bioethics;


- Knowing the principles of bioethics;

Principialism;
The principle of beneficence and nonmaleficence;
The principle of justice;
The principle of autonomy


- Know the models of bioethics;

Ethical pluralism;
Cognitivism and non-cognitivism;
The principialist model;
Descriptive ethics: the sociobiologist model;
Subjectivist ethics: the liberal-radical model;
Intersubjectivist ethics: the pragmatist-utilitarian model;
Objectivist ethics: the personalist model;
The ethics of care

- Know the structuring of ethics committees ;

Characteristics and structuring of an ethics committee.
Ethics committees for clinical trials;

- Frontal and interactive lectures;

Assessment methods

- The examination is oral and consists of answering 2 questions of varying conceptual complexity. - The duration  will be 15 minutes.

- The mode of argumentation through critical thinking recognizing the ethical deontological issues related to 'nursing consistent with the bioethical orientations proper to the profession will be evaluated.
