Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student will have acquired the knowledge necessary to understand the methodological foundations of Basic Information Technology, particularly focusing on aspects related to the processing architectures of computer systems and the essential software required for their operation. Specifically, the student will be able to:
- Understand the different functional architectures of an electronic computer.
- Comprehend the criteria used to evaluate the computing performance of IT systems.
- Describe the functional components of a computer and associate them with the corresponding physical devices.
- Explain numerical representation methods in binary and decimal systems and the types of data processed by a computer.
- Identify various methods of data transfer within an electronic computer and the input and output streams generated during processing.
- Differentiate between the types and functionalities of operating systems available for electronic computers.
- Describe the primary and service processing categories.
- Understand the main network connection architectures of electronic computers and the Internet's structure.
- Describe protocols, data transmission methods, and key software services on the network.
- Configure a computer for connection to a local network and utilize primary office automation and internetworking software.
- Apply fundamental methodologies for securing IT systems.
Course contents
The course will cover citation database systems (Web of Science, Scopus), tools for evaluating scientific impact (H-index, Impact Factor, etc.), and scientific search engines (PubMed). Additionally, guidance will be provided on how to effectively design data presentations for scientific dissemination using PowerPoint and images. Finally, instructions will be given on optimising the use of Word for text processing, including reporting, archiving, and analysing patient clinical data.
