Learning outcomes
By the end of the laboratory the student: knows the main research methodologies in the respective field of study; acquires an in-depth knowledge of the structure and organization of an argumentative text; is able to collect and organize primary and secondary sources, and to write a bibliography; knows how to apply appropriate editorial criteria in the finalization of the text.
Course contents
The thesis preparation workshop offers DAMS degree students the tools and skills necessary to write a thesis in musicology and ethnomusicology, as well as other types of texts required during their university studies, such as essays, papers, abstracts, and CVs.
During the workshop, the following topics will be covered:
- How to choose the topic for the undergraduate thesis
- How to propose the topic to a professor
- How to structure the thesis
- Conducting bibliographic research
- Using various sources (primary, secondary, oral, archival, digital)
- Research methods
- Organizing and drafting the text
- How to prepare an abstract

Teaching methods
During the lessons, students will be encouraged to actively participate in discussions and debates on the topics covered. Depending on the topics, practical exercises may be conducted.
Assessment methods
The workshop activities do not result in a grade. Students are considered eligible if they participate in at least 80% of the lessons.
Active participation by students is strongly encouraged, and attendance may be verified through online questionnaires or by filling out registers and sign-in sheets. Students who cannot attend the in-person lessons are requested to contact the instructor to agree on a personalized program and assessment for eligibility.
