Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student knows the basic concepts of general psychology and the main methods of studying behaviour; the student acquires knowledge on basic cognitive processes (attention, language, communication, intelligence, motivation, emotion).

Course contents

The course is designed to provide knowledge of the cognitive basis of human behaviour up to the most recent developments in the study of cognitive processes and the contributions coming from neuroscience

The contents are the following schedule:

Historical introduction to scientific psychology: Gestalt psychology, behaviorism, cognitivism, recent developments in neuroscience with particular reference to the mind-brain problem;

Cognitive processes: perception, learning, memory, thinking, language;

Specific aspects of behaviour: the study of emotions

Students with SLD or temporary or permanent disabilities. Occhionero M. (a cura di). Introduzione alla psicologia generale. Roma: Carocci 2018. the handbook must be studied in its entirety with the exception of the chapter on methodology (2) and attention (4).

During the lessons, the teacher will provide bibliographical suggestions for further information on specific topics and/or general problems of the discipline.

Teaching methods

Frontal lectures

Additional resources for preparation will be provided through supplementary materials uploaded to the Virtual platform. Indications for accessing these resources will be provided in class and on the Virtual platform

Assessment methods

Enrollment in the test will always take place through the Alma Esami application.

 

The oral test is aimed at verifying the level of learning objectives achieved and the student's ability to use the knowledge acquired during the course.

To this end, the oral test is scheduled into three questions through which the student's ability to present the contents of the requested topic within the historical frame of reference is investigated. A critical treatment of the topics will be particularly appreciated.

For non-native Italian speakers, the course presupposes good knowledge of the Italian language.

Based on the number of registered students, students will be divided into shifts with time slots that the system will provide immediately following the order of registration.

Students with SLD or temporary or permanent disabilities. It is necessary to contact the relevant University office (https://site.unibo.it/studenti-con-disabilita-e-dsa/en) with ample time in advance: the office will propose some adjustments, which must in any case be submitted 15 days in advance to the lecturer, who will assess the appropriateness of these in relation to the teaching objectives.

Teaching tools

During the lectures, slides will be projected and discussed. The slides will be available to students on the University's web platform Virtuale (specific directions will be given during class and also made available by email).
