Learning outcomes
At the end of the module, the student is familiar with measuring instruments and their correct use, the tricks used in industry to obtain appropriate mechanical measurements; he/she is able to assess the maximum permissible error in both laboratory and industrial measurements with particular regard to operating protocols.
Course contents
General measurement problems. Measurement errors and their propagation. Performance and verification of measuring instruments. Time measurements. Measurements of density, density mass, heaviness, absolute and relative humidity. Deformation measurements. Pressure measurements. Vibration measurements. Temperature measurements. Speed measurements. Internal friction measurements in fluids, viscosity. Flow measurements. Force measurements. Testing.
Readings/Bibliography
Handouts provided by the teacher.
Teaching methods
A comprehensive overview of the main measurements of physical quantities of great importance in industry will be presented. Special attention will be paid to error theory and the evolution and refinement of measuring instruments over time. For greater involvement during the lecture and to promote learning of the new content, images and application solutions will be projected and provided to the students.
Assessment methods
The final examination consists of an oral test.
