Learning outcomes
At the end of the workshop the student knows how to apply what was dealt with in the course within a simulated learning environment; s/he knows how to think critically and how to discuss within a group about the issues presented in the workshop.
Course contents
The workshop's aim is to reflect on the verbal and visual strategies typical of the picturebook, considered as a sophisticated medium both in textual and illustrative terms, and in the relationship between these two codes.
Readings/Bibliography
Critical essays will be indicated during the workshop, according to which direction the collective discussion takes, or to the specific interests of the students.
Teaching methods
During the workshop many picturebooks will be shown, selected among the ones that are both extremely sophisticated in verbal and visual terms, and characterized by stereotypical visions and representations. These titles will be discussed together.
Assessment methods
Students will be asked to choose picturebooks that they consider sophisticated (different from the ones discussed in the classroom) and to analyse their verbal and visual strategies in a written report.
Teaching tools
Video-projection of pdfs of many picturebooks.
