Learning outcomes
At the end of the workshop the student will:
- be able to apply independently methods and techniques learnt in a variety of early childhood education and care settings;
- be able to critically reflect on his/her own practice and to work collaboratively with colleagues;
- be able to adapt his/her own educational practices to different contexts and settings;
- be able to assess strengths and limitation of the techniques learnt;
- be able to critically apply the techniques learnt by adding his/her own personal contribution.
Course contents
The main aim of the workshop is to encourage a proactive attitude of students in using active and cooperative education methodologies for fostering peer-learning among early childhood education and care professionals. In particular, students will be introduced to the use of video-analysis to document, critically review and improve educational and care practices enacted in early childhood settings.
The workshop will be carried out in six meetings as follows:
1) introduction to the workshop and presentation of the literature on video-analysis in early childhood settings, formation of working groups
2) the use of video-analysis and video-coaching as methodologies to support reflection and peer learning among professionals in early childhood settings: the TRACKS project
3) the use of structured observation tools to analyse interaction among children and adults in early childhood education and care settings
4) the use of video-analysis as a tool to develop more inclusive practices in contexts characterized by socio-cultural diversity: examples from Belgium, Germany and England
5) production of documentation related to the content learnt within the workshop by each working group
6) collective reflection on documentation produced by working groups and participatory evaluation of the workshop.

Teaching methods
Workshop activities will be carried out by using active learning methodologies e cooperative learning techniques to facilitate peer exchanges and reflection among students.
Assessment methods
Students active participation to workshops will be evaluated on the basis of their contribution to group work, to collective discussion, and to the production of final documentation.
Teaching tools
Workshop activities will be facilitated by observation tools and learning materials distributed by the lecturer during each meeting.
