Learning outcomes

The student knows the basic features (terms, concepts and methods) needed for the study of the structure, functions and textual organization of the Russian language; s/he knows the techniques required for information mining, drafting, editing and revising texts; s/he is able to understand, analyze and coherently produce complex written texts (but also oral speeches) belonging to various specialized text types and genres.

Course contents

The course programme will cover a number of key topics concerning Russian morphosyntax, with a focus on the following:

- The category of aspect in Russian

- Aktiosart as a verbal category

- Collocations in Russian

- Lexical synonyms and converses.

- Elements of stylistics. Nominalisation as a feature of Russian specialised languages

- Main rules of punctuation in Russian

- Linguistic propaganda and the hate speech in Russian media.

Assessment methods

The final grade is formed from two components:

There will be a written exam on one of the topics covered in class as well as an oral exam that will test the ability to stylistically and grammatically analyse a proposed passage.<

A final mark is given based on the evaluation of the written test and the oral exam with the possible bonus (0-2) according to the work during the semester.
