Learning outcomes

The Laboratory is aimed at developing students' capabilities in delivering public presentations, a basic knowledge of some main international issues like terrorism, climate change negotiations, responsibility to protect debate etc., and essays' writing on international politics.

Course contents

Students will be introduced to the work of academic and professional debate through presentations. Famous political speeches and presentations will be debated in the classroom. The 2024-2025 Laboratory will be focused on main diplomatic professional contents and current case studies. Alternating seminars from diplomatic experts with students' presentations and debates, attending students will be stimulated to drill their skills in analyzing, programming and delivering a topic. Moreover, students will be able to provide short written essays.

Laboratory activities will be focused on the following issues: 

 

- Scientific-professional communication: how to arrange data

- New functions of professional diplomat

- Public diplomacy in a changing world

- Negotiating in multilateral diplomacy

- European security

- UN System

Teaching methods

Laboratory activities will include presentations of famous speeches and presentations, seminars from diplomatic experts and students' presentations, and debate on international issues.

Assessment methods

The Laboratory does not imply a final exam but requires attendance. Students' participation and exercise in seminars, debates and presentations will allow a continuous evaluation of engagement. For a deeper assessment students will be able to provide short papers.

Teaching tools

Resources on specific issues will be available on Virtuale (https://virtuale.unibo.it/). Videos will be presented and analyzed in the classroom.
