Learning outcomes
Students are trained to recognize the main mental disorders and to set up an appropriate treatment plan. More in details students will learn
-clinical interviewing,
-psychopathology
-psychiatric disorders encountered in the practice of medicine, both in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
Students will acquire knowledge about the relationships between internist or surgical pathologies and mental disorders, psychosomatic medicine, and issues related to consultation and liaison psychiatry. They will be able to make a diagnosis of mental disorder and has basic knowledge in the various specialized areas of psychiatry, including drug-addiction psychiatry, psychogeriatrics, adolescent psychiatry, and eating disorders. From the point of view of treatment, they will be trained to establish a proper doctor-patient relationship and to use psychotropic drugs competently, and knows the introductory elements of psychodynamic psychiatry. In addition, the students will learn psychiatric legislation and care organization. Finally, the student knows the biopsychosocial model applied to mental disorders and the main psychosocial and rehabilitative treatments.

EXAMINATION with ORAL mode
The verification of learning takes place through a final examination that ascertains the acquisition of the expected knowledge through the conduct of an oral test. This test aims to assess the achievement of the learning objectives described above.
Each candidate will be asked two/three open questions on topics in psychiatry selected by the committee.
The purpose of the oral test is to verify the student's ability to apply his or her notional background and to make the necessary logical-deductive connections.
Final grade grading:
Preparation on a very limited number of topics covered in the course and ability to analyze emerging only with the help of the lecturer, expression in overall correct language → 18-19;
Preparation on a limited number of topics covered in the course and ability to analyze independently only on purely executive issues, expression in correct language → 20-24;
Preparation on a large number of topics covered in the course, ability to make independent choices of critical analysis, mastery of specific terminology → 25-29;
Substantially comprehensive preparation on the topics covered in the course, ability to make independent choices of critical analysis and linking, full mastery of specific terminology, and ability to argue and self-reflect → 30-30 L.
The grade obtained for individual module will contribute to the grade obtained for the integrated course, proportionally to the number of CFUs. For the Psychology part, check program and modalities indicated by Prof. Silvana Grandi within the integrated course PSYCHIATRY AND CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY (C.I.)
Exams will be held in attendance.
For ERASMUS students who need to take only the psychiatry exam, please, refer to Prof. ATTI (it's usually the day before the date set for Italian students).
Teaching tools
Lecture material presented in class and selected scholarly articles will be made available to the student. Viewing of some videos will be suggested or, where possible, carried out together.
