Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will: - know some of the formal and non-formal learning processes as well as the social and cultural conditioning of lifelong learning; - be able to understand and analyze norms and documents relating to welfare and lifelong learning policies; - know how to understand sociological research materials in the field; - be able to find, read and interpret some of the sources and statistical data relating to lifelong learning; - be able to independently develop professional skills by identifying and using appropriate paths and methods of technical-professional upgrading.
Course contents
The first part (Prof. Tuorto) addresses some issues of the sociology of welfare state with particular reference to Italy. A reconstruction of the genesis of the welfare state and its evolution throughout the 20th century, up to the crisis of the 1970s and more recent transformations will be provided. Alongside the historical analysis, a comparison of models of welfare capitalism and social regulation in different countries is proposed. Some lectures are devoted to welfare policies oriented towards social assistance, specifically to interventions against poverty.
The second part (module 2, Prof. Tagliaventi) will focus instead on old and new forms of inequalities in a lifelong learning system. Special attention will be given to informal education and the environment as a learning context.
