Learning outcomes
At the end of the module the student possesses the ability to apply knowledge and understanding regarding the historical and legislative facts that have determined the cultural and professional evolution of the midwife figure with particular regard to the transition from practical-empirical assistance, purely to female, to structured and organized assistance based on scientific knowledge.

- Birth cultures: evolution of the midwife's skills, autonomy and responsibilities
- Concepts of physiology, pathology and risk
- Regulatory references and training evolution of the Midwife
- Concept of “Midwifery”
- Areas of competence of the Midwife's own field of activity and responsibility
- Analysis of the type of care activity
- From “Colleges of Midwives” to “Professional Orders” - National Federation of Orders of the Midwifery Profession (FNOPO)
- Code of Conduct - Professional secret
- International Code of Ethics for Midwives (ICM 1993)
- International reports (NEMIR and EMA)
