Learning outcomes
At the end of the class, student has knowledge of the method and tools of Geotechnical Engineering for the Preservation of Historic Buildings. In particular, at the end of the course he/she is able to identify the possible geotechnical issues for the preservation of historic building and to plan a geotechnical survey
Course contents
The laboratory is intended to provide the basis for understanding the main geotechnical issues in the preservation of monuments and historic sites. In this framework the knowledge of previous experiences is a unique guide in any decisional process. Hence, lessons start from selected case histories, giving example of the geotechnical problems to be tackled, the proposed solutions, and the strategies carried out to preserve the overall integrity of the monuments. Each presented case study is used to introduce a relevant geotechnical issue from a theoretical point of view. In particular, three main topics are developed: in situ tests, monitoring and foundation system analysis. The theoretical concepts are then applied to specific data and developed into assigned exercises.

Teaching methods
Theoretical lessons are held with the support of ppt presentations. Exercises, similar to the ones of the final exam, are solved during lessons. Other exercises are given to student as homeworks in order to practice.
Assessment methods
The final exam is composed of an exercise and open questions
Teaching tools
Slides are prepared by the teacher, used during lessons and provided to students as study support. Slides are downlodable from the website: Insegnamenti OnLine [https://iol.unibo.it/]
