Learning outcomes

A2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages for written French. B1 for oral french.

Course contents

The course is an introduction to French language, consisting in some phonetic aspects, basic vocabulary and grammar. CAUTION: The working materials will be available online.

Introduction à la langue française

- l'alphabet français (y compris les signes diacritiques)
- les règles phonétiques de base : prononciation des voyelles orales et nasales, diphtongues et triphtongues, consonnes muettes, etc.
- les façons de saluer et de prendre congé
- les auxiliaires être et avoir et les auxiliaires de mode (devoir, pouvoir) à l'indicatif présent
- les verbes en -ER réguliers à l'indicatif présent
- les numéraux cardinaux et ordinaux

Conjugaison
Les catégories de verbes les plus courantes doivent être connues à la voix active et à la voix passive, affirmative et négative, aux temps simples et aux temps composés (en sachant alors quel auxiliaire utiliser)

Catégories de verbes à maitriser :
1° verbes du 1er groupe en -ER (y compris verbes irréguliers en -YER, -CER, -GER, les règles d'accentuation des verbes comme céder, acheter, et les verbes du type appeler, jeter)
2° verbes du 2e groupe en -IR (2 catégories type sentir / type finir)
3° verbes du 3e groupe en -(T)RE (mettre, battre), -ONDRE/-ENDRE (répondre, tendre + prendre), -UIRE, -EVOIR (décevoir) verbes en -A/-EINDRE, -OINDRE
+ des verbes inclassables : tenir/venir et composés, faire, dire, suivre, vivre, croire, voir, boire, mourir
Temps à maitriser :
- Indicatif présent
- Impératif présent
- Temps du passé : emploi et formes de l'imparfait, du plus-que-parfait et du passé composé
- Périphrases verbales: futur proche, passé récent, présent progressif
- Futurs simple et antérieur

Grammaire
- Les articles (définis, indéfinis et partitifs)
- La formation du féminin (adjectifs et substantifs)
- La formation du pluriel (adjectifs et substantifs), y compris des noms composés
- Les adjectifs et pronoms démonstratifs
- Les adjectifs et pronoms possessifs
- La négation (formation, place du ne … pas)
- L'interrogation (formation, adjectifs et pronoms interrogatifs)
- La formation des adverbes en « -ment »

Lexique
- Nombres, heures et dates
- Jours, mois, saisons, fêtes
- Le vocabulaire de la famille
- Pays, langues, nationalités
- Les parties du corps

A French grammar (any grammar in your own first language will do) is strongly recommended, especially for beginners / false beginners:

Teaching methods

The teaching also includes the support of slides, videos, web sources, and the sharing of teaching materials through IOL.

During the first lesson, all the teaching methods and tools used will be introduced.

Assessment methods

Oral exam.

During the exam, which is held in French, the student must be able to:
- read a passage of a text with a good prononciation;
- translate in Italian or English a passage of the text chosen by the teacher;
- answer some questions of grammar, conjugation and vocabulary on the text.

The text will be selected from the corpus Textes pour l'examen available on virtual.unibo.it.
