Learning outcomes

Basic tools for statistical quality control: statistical process control, process capability analysis, sampling plans.

Course contents

Historical notes.

 

Statistical process control.

The general framework. Shewhart control charts: control charts for variables; control charts for attributes. The role of the power function and the Average Run Length (ARL) function on the design of the control charts.

 

Capability analysis.

The general framework. The most used capability indices: Cp, Cpk, Cpm. Important aspects in the use of capability indices.

 

Acceptance sampling.

 The general framework. Acceptance sampling for attributes. The Operative Curve (OC) of a sampling plan. Double sampling plans. Dodge-Roming sampling plans. The ISO tables for acceptance sampling

Assessment methods

The assessment aims to evaluate the achievement of the following learning objectives:

  • the knowledge of the fundamental aspects of statistical quality control
  • the ability in designing statistical process control activities, acceptance sampling plans and process capability analyses.

The exam is written and the evaluation is expressed as a grade of out of 30
