Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will develop basic skills to
explain and describe the evolution of economic systems and the
dynamics of agricultural systems. He/She will be able to collect
and process the main data and to communicate ideas with different
approaches and identify solutions for territorial problems.
Course contents
1. Objectives and expected results of the course (total didactic
unit: 6 hours)
Competitive markets and cooperation needs.
Global framework of agricultural markets.
Economic systems and market economies.
German and Japanese capitalism and cooperation.
Subsidiary in global market
2. The Italian experience in cooperation and its role in
agriculture (total didactic unit: 6 hours)
Hints of history of the cooperation and agricultural cooperation in
Italy.
Italian cooperation and agricultural modernisation.
The role of agricultural cooperation between farm and market.
Characteristics of cooperatives and other companies' models
The principles of international agreements.
ACI: principles and relevance.
3. Agricultural farm management (total didactic unit: 6
hours)
The role of members and their assemble in cooperatives.
The relation member-cooperative: supply, assessment and
settlement.
Statute bodies.
4. Experiences and case studies (total didactic unit: 16
hours)

Teaching methods
Beside lectures, case studies will be presented and discussed
according to hints coming from scientific press and lastest news.
Oral test will be held along the course. Reading suggestions on
political economics and economic policies will be given. Technical
visits to innovative cooperatives and farms will be
organised.
Assessment methods
The final assessment consists of an oral test, taking into account
tests held during the course. The student has the possibility to
choose a subject, write a report on it and hold a presentation. The
assessment takes also into account analysis and synthesis
capabilities developed by the student, as well as his/her
presentation skills.
Teaching tools
Traditional teaching tools are used, such as PC, video-projector
and blackboard.
