Learning outcomes

The course provides a general understanding of cultural geography approach to the fhenomena of local development with particular attention to the craft sector of excellence (cultural marchandise), textile and fashion. The student shall acquires the knowledge of the territorial cultural dynamics and local development through the use of of spatial patterns of local territorial systems and  case studies in different scale (districts and networks). The student shall learn how to evaluate an integrated approach to cultural dynamics of economics and quality of life, essential for a sustanaible and ethical economy of consumption ; she/he shall acquire the ability to design and plan routes/thematic  networks  between fashion /handicraft  and tourism/leisure and between cultural marchandise and cultural locations/museums linked to new cultural consumption and lifestyles through the specific way of thinhing, to look, to represent and act on the world by geographical gaze.

Course contents

The course provides a broad understanding of phenomena of Cultural Geography and Local Development with particular attention to the handcraft sector (cultural marchandise) and new lifestyles related to leisure. The student at the end of the course acquires knowledge of the cultural dynamics of territorial processes and local development based on the spatial patterns of the local territorial systems and case studies. She/he learns to evaluate with an integrated cultural approach the economic dynamics and quality of life for a sustainable and ethical consumption. She/he  acquires the ability to design cultural routes / thematic networks between fashion, tourist practices and leisure and between cultural marchandise and cultural places, in relation to new cultural consumption and lifestyle through the specific way of thinking, look, represent, act and experiment on the world. Some of the most important geographical themes of the international debate among the social sciences will be treated: place, territory, landscape, city, region, nation state, globe, consumption, tourism, tangible and intangible heritahe and identity.

The students in teams of 3/5 people will engage in the development of projects devoted to the handicraft heritage with particular reference to shoes, fashion and cultural marchandise for the practices of new lifestyles  and leisure in the territorial systems and  production chains.

Teaching methods

The course is divided : the 50% to classroom lessons, the 20% to seminars and testimonials from professionals, the 5% documentary and movie,  the 10% to thee workfield,  15% oral relation by students (team of 3/5 people) about cultural/ethical issues and original projects.

Assessment methods

The examination is written

The frequency is not compulsary

For students attending the course:

The written exam checks the project that the students must submit, by the course of study and it is based on a probable series of open questions ( 2), to verify the knowledge of  codes of ethics , theories , concepts and cases studies; It will value the originality and the degree of feasibility ( capacity building ) of the written project and the ability to illustrate and discuss the project as part of the course. The student must be sufficient in both the tests and thresholds are defined on the sufficiency skills.

The test is divided into two parts :

1. Exposure in the classroom of an original project developed in groups of three / fifths students , with written report and digital cartographic representation

2 . Final written examination, made ​​mandatory in the three appeals of the first session.

Note: if the student does not show up to the three appeals of the first session, you can submit appeals to others as supporting student not attending

For those not attending :

The written exam is based on a series of open questions ( 4) on the theoretical knowledge and application by the student .
