Learning outcomes

The student at the end of the course knows the development of historiography in Greek and Roman antiquity from its Latin origins to the late Roman Empire. He knows the heuristic techniques and edition of historical sources of textual character, able to apply critical analysis methodologies. Can communicate in oral form by choosing the appropriate registers, you know documenting methodologies and used in the historical narrative historiographical approaches.

-La nascita della storiografia. La storiografia greca; Erodoto-Tucidide-Senofonte. Polibio. Graecia capta

-La storiografia latina, gli annalisti; Catone. Il tradizionalismo; definizione Annali; Livio prefazione (letture passi Cicerone Polibio Livio)

-Imperialismo. Sallustio; Catilina (in Sallustio e Cicerone) e Giugurta

-Storiografia del principato: storiografia e biografia. Tacito e Svetonio

Modulo II (lezz. 7-15)

-Storiografia III secolo: avvenimenti; critica, EKG (con passi in letture); panegiristica

-Costantino: storiografia cristiana e pagana

-Zosimo, Eusebio e conversione di Costantino

-Annales di Nicomaco Flaviano, Orosio, Jordanes, Marcellinus comes

  • Lettura e commento di alcune Lettere di San Gerolamo
  • Il Sacco Di Roma tra Gerolamo e gli storici pagani

Oral lessons. we distribute educational materials so that we can discuss in class, comparing the different interpretations.
