Course contents

In order to achieve these objectives, the Course will be developed into three parts: the Institutional Part, the Monographic Part, and the Seminarial One.

In its Institutional Part the Course will outline the main processes, which characterize the socio-cultural changes having place in contemporary society. After describing the main approaches developed in Sociology to conceptualize the transition from traditional to modern society, the Course will offer a theoretical perspective, in order to interpret the dynamics of the changes taking place: it is the socio-cultural “logic†of the "post"-modernity, which proposes a conceptualization of non-progressive, but distorting, changes, which are the emergent effect of the relationships among  agency, and social and cultural structures.

In its Monographic Part the Course will devote specific attention to three phenomena, the following ones:

1. Religious freedom;

2. Interreligious questions of bioethics;

3. Religious pluralism in Italy.

The analysis of these phenomena, upstream, will have the framework of socio-cultural transformations of this Country, and downstream, will be completed by examples of management of social tensions generated by cultural and religious diversities.

Finally, an active approach will be promoted among the students to the themes of the Course. The Seminarial Part would encourage the student's theming of his/her own interests and cognitive explanations of further socio-cultural processes emerging today. To this end have been prepared some depth seminars, studies and sociological research on emerging socio-religious and cultural processes.

Assessment methods

The test will be composed by 20 questions (the minimum program), or by 30 questions or more (the enlarged program): 10 questions for each other book. Each question is at multiple choice: you have to choose the correct answer among five responses, the other ones are wrong. Questions and answers will be already written in the test, so that the student will have only to choise the answear(s) which he/she will keep as right.

 Time: 1' for each question, maximum 20' for the minimum program, +10' for each chosen book.

 You can pass the exam if you'll gain 12 right answers in the test for minimum program, and +6 right answers for each chosen book (enlarged program)“ for each positive proof in your chosen book/s, you'll have 3 points to add at your score.

2 important info.s about  the exam:

  1. In order to choise the type of program: You had to be present at minimum to the 70% of the lessons. Presences under this minimum may be integrated by studying one book more than the ones, listed in the minimum program (a third book, chosen between the listed ones). Regular attendence to the lessons is a good practice: so you can pose questions! And at the 8th weeks you'll have a test of the written examination. Briefly, students attending to the lessons will have more chances to gain the exam;

  2. In order to be registered to the roll-call:  You had to insert your name in the electronic list for the exam within the 5th day before the fixed date. You'll have access to the e-list in the AlmaEsami website, at the url: https://almaesami.unibo.it/almaesami/welcome.htm). Erasmus students may request an earlier review by the day of their departure.
