Learning outcomes

On completion of the seminar the student: - will have learnt the key fields of application of sociology, the trasformations it has undergone and most recent developments; - will be aware of the relevance of a range of skils capable of promoting the profession of sociologist, an expert discipline featuring operational issues oriented by other fields of study; - will be capable of preparing a brief essay focusing on a topic addressed the seminar and agreed on with the course leader.

Course contents

The aim of the seminar is to provide students with a satisfactory knowledge of the professional applications of sociology, and of the significance of the results giving rise to a range of applicative trends. The first part of the course will focus on a detail appraisal of the trasformations that sociological practices have undergone over the years in various professional contexts, on consolidation of the latter in Italian society and the difficulties enconuntered in recent years. The second part of the course will be devoted to underlining the skills and applicative knowledge tha have proven efficacious in a series of operational setting, demostrating an ability to address emerging issues and critical situations, and contribute towards the wellbeing of individuals and social groups.

Teaching methods

The total duration of the seminar is 30 hours and includes both individual lessons and group discussion. It is expected that a brief essay (not exceeding 3.000 words) focusing on a topic agreed with the teacher shall be written and discussed during group activities

Assessment methods

The criteria applied in the awarding of credit are as follows: - proven attendance (signing of a register) in a least 705 of scheduked lectures; preaparatio of a brief essay focusing on a topic agreed on with the course teacher and submitted to the latter for final assessment. No certificate of qualification wil be issued to students who have not complied with the deadlines and procedures indicated.
