Course contents

LINGUA E LINGUISTICA SPAGNOLA 3 (Spanish Language and Linguistics 3)

The course (lectures - lezioni frontali - Prof.ssa Rodrigo) consists of two parts:

PART A:

Lingüística de la comunicación (Communication Linguistics). The aim is to initiate the student into the systematic study of the organization of information within the text in Spanish:

-Linguistic form and social relations.

-Discourse manipulation and expression effects.

-Verbal interaction and conversational analysis.

 

PART B:

Los lenguajes especializados (Specialized languages): The aim is to initiate the student into the linguistic analysis of specialized texts regarding advertising, mass media, politics, economy, tourism, etc.

Required reading: dossier and class notes from lectures.

PRACTICAL LANGUAGE CLASSES ON SPANISH LANGUAGE AND LINGUISTICS 3

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The practical Spanish language classes (esercitazioni) aim at understanding oral, expository and dialogical texts on various topics, with different language registers and diversified uses of language. Students at the end of the course must: understand written texts concerning contemporary reality and cultural topics. Recognize a range of text types and their structures. Know how to expose and/or illustrate oral discourses in a clear and fluent way. Learn how to properly interact in different communicative situations. Produce written texts respecting coherence and cohesion on complex issues, show a correct use of the mechanisms of organization, articulation and text cohesion. Acquire analysis and synthesis capacities. Constantly exercise the linguistic analysis in order to know in detail the LS operation system, analyze the student's own mistakes, correct the language interferences between Spanish and Italian through translation exercises. Consolidate and acquire standard vocabulary and specific languages vocabulary; metaphoric constructions, polysemy, lexical variety depending on the language register and the type of text, phraseological collocations, idioms, study of proverbs, etc.

Details of required texts and reader will be made available at the beginning of the course by the native-speaker language experts (CEL).

ASSESSMENT METHODS (ESERCITAZIONI DEL LETTORATO)

The final assessment of the course consists of a written exam that students must pass before being admitted to the oral exam (students must have at least a 18/30 mark on the written exam in order to take the oral exam). The practical language classes on Spanish Language and Linguistics 3 (esercitazioni) final mark is calculated through the average mark of the written and the oral exam.

  • WRITTEN EXAM: The written exam is a 3 hours long written test consisting of:

1.different exercises in order to assess reading skills, morpho-syntactic, lexical and cultural knowledge;

2. Italian-Spanish translation;

3. Writing skills on a range of texts (argumentative – descriptive -narrative, concerning the topics and texts indicated on the Practical Language classes (Esercitazioni di lingua e linguistica 3) program.

Through the written exam the following skills will be evaluated:

  • morpho-syntactic, lexical and cultural knowledge requested in a C1 level according to the Common European Framework
  • writing skills on different types of texts;
  • Italian-Spanish translation;
  • compulsory texts and reader.

 

THE USE OF THE DICTIONARY IS NOT PERMITTED

 

  • ORAL EXAM

The speaking ability test consist of a conversation in Spanish with the teacher in order to evaluate: morpho-syntactic, lexical and cultural knowledge requested in a C1 level according to the Common European Framework; listening skills; fluent speaking skills; interaction skills; compulsory texts and reader.

 

DETAILS OF REQUIRED TEXTS AND READER WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE COURSE BY THE NATIVE-SPEAKER LANGUAGE EXPERTS (CEL).

Teaching methods

Esercitazioni del lettorato: Guided and semi-guided activities will be held during the lessons in order to facilitate the acquisition of language structures and functions. The course is based on the practice of both oral (speaking and listening) and written (writing and reading) skills. In order to improve the speaking skills, the course focuses on a range of communicative situations, the specificity of different linguistic codes and language registers, proxemics and non-verbal communication. Different guided activities are proposed in order to stimulate the student's own opinion and further discussion with other students.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods (lectures -lezioni frontali - prof.ssa Rodrigo)

Oral exam in Spanish (C1 level) both about the contents of the syllabus (class notes) and about the required readings (see bibliography) in order to certify the acquisition of knowledge and skills.

Expression ability, completeness and correctness of the acquired contents, coherence and cohesion, and conversational skills are taken into consideration for the evaluation.

The student shall succeed the written and oral exams of the lettorato (Practices on Spanish Language) in order to access the oral exam of Spanish Language and Linguistics 3.

The result of the practices is taken into consideration for the final evaluation.
