When and why the market was born.
Fundamentals of a market economy and how does it function. Virtues and limits of the market.
The theory of consumer behaviour. Individual and aggregate demand. Labour supply.
The theory of production. Technology. Factor combination. Production costs.
Competitive equilibrium in the Marshallian and in the Walrasian approach.
Non-competitive markets and elements of game theory. Monopoly and oligopoly.
New theories of the firm. Transaction costs. Asymmetric information. Property rights.
Welfare economics in the utilitarian tradition. Neo-contractualism and the theory of justice.
Market failures and government intervention. Government failures and regulation policies.
Economic behaviour beyond “homo oeconomicus”. The theory of “homo reciprocans”. Labour supply when work is not only pain.
Theory of non-capitalistic firms: cooperatives; social enterprises; non profit organizations. Intrinsic versus extrinsic motivations.
