- Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Aerospace Engineering (cod. 8263)
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student has and be able to solve aircraft design problems using appropriate methods and SoftWare as the Finite Element Method
Course contents
Introduction to numerical
methods of structural
analysis, with some
examples of
calculation of stiffness matrices in
the case of basic
elements, such as
the elastic one-dimensional, ideal rods and beams. In particular, we analyze methods based
on the principle of
virtual work.
Finite element methods: general recalls and related
applications. Determination of the stiffness
matrix in the case of "beam" and "shell"
3-nodes elements. Lagrangian equations
of dynamics and their
application to the finite element method to
calculate the equations of small oscillations. Work and vibration
free and natural
vibration modes of a
structure.
The computer
analysis of practical
examples of application of finite element
methods.

Teaching methods
Introductory lectures on theory and practical demonstrations at the computer. The students, divided into small groups, will work independently and solve some exercises analytically and numerically, comparing the results obtained.
Assessment methods
Students
are required to deliver a report outlining
the solution of some
exercises.
Results will be presented by students in the form
of oral presentation (slides).
The student must
submit the exercises with the arrangements for the
academic year in which it obtained
the frequency of the
laboratory.
