Learning outcomes

Acquire good knowledge about materials and design criteria of roads, railways and airports.

Course contents

Planning and design of roads, railways and airports: geometric design consistency, traffic analysis.

Design and construction of embankments and trenches.

Soil retaining structures: theories for computation of active and passive pressures (Rankine, Coulomb).

Railways: materials and construction techniques for railway pavements.

Flexible, semi-flexibleand rigid pavements: materials (bitumens, cement and lime, aggregates for bound materials, bituminous materials)and design criteria.
