Learning outcomes

Students will be expected to become proficient in the use of both traditional and more recent technological instruments in the production of translations across a wide-range of text types and products. Thus, as well as technical and scientific translations, students will be able to engage in literary and audiovisual products. They will also be introduced to and be given practice in activities such as translation revision and evaluation from a professional standpoint.

Course contents

In strict collaboration with Dr. Rachele Antonini who will be responsible for the practical part of the course in which students will engage in 'hands-on' voice-over of various television products from English into Italian, I will give provide a general introduction to the world of screen translation paying particular attention to the dubbing industry in Italy, as well as the growth of voice-over across Europe.

Teaching methods

Lessons will be held in the multimedia lab (complete with conosle for dubbing and voice over) so that students will be able to interact and participate with materials and teacher.

 

Assessment methods

Students will be required to prepare 4mins of a voice-over script in Italian, according to conventions introduced during classwork, of an English documentary.

Teaching tools

We will make use of electronic media; popular TV formats such as series, documentaries, news programmes etc. in their original and translated forms.
