Learning outcomes

Analysis of control, diagnosis and calibration problems regarding internal combustion engines.

Course contents

Introduction to Measurements: sensors for Internal Combustion Engines; the sampling process, aliasing, filters.

Introduction to Control System Analysis: LTI systems, Fourier and Laplace transforms. Feedback Control Systems, precision, stability, promptness.

Engine Control Unit: torque control.

Main Actuations: simulation of a PFI-SI engine ECU.

Combustion Control for SI and CI engines: Spark Advance and injetction pattern calibration, knock diagnosis.
