Learning outcomes
Students will achieve a good knowledge of Italian language and literature, according to a methodological deepening in textual and historical analysis.
Course contents
The whole course of Italian Literature includes two units. The first unit (introductive course) will face Italian literary history between XIX and early XX Centuries. Within the first unit students are also requested to read Dante Alighieri's Purgatory, cantos I-XII. The second unit will focus on some authors or works. Please, refer to the scheduled academic calendar for length and terms of each unit.
I unit (general section): History of Italian Literature of XIX and early XX Centuries (1815-1920).
II unit (specific section): National Identity and Literary Tradition in Italy in XIX Century.
A punctual attendance of lectures is recommended, especially for the second unit.
Warnings and remarks. The present is the only outline for Italian Literature examination. Previous outlines are no more valid. Changes from a course to another, or from a professor to another, are not permitted.

Teaching methods
Lectures on courses themes, connected with information about bibliographic references, using pc, web sites, slides, overhead projector.
Assessment methods
Propaedeutic paper on topics strictly related to the course themes. After the paper, students will face discussion about the whole course topics, including analysis of literary texts.
